In today’s CapCon, Gov. Kathy Hochul said she doesn’t want noncitizens handed over to ICE until after they’re convicted and serve time. But she stopped short of saying that should be state law.
And, New York’s new law banning formal agreements between local law enforcement and ICE took effect Tuesday. A coalition of local sheriffs promptly sued to kill it.
Then, James Dolan has dropped another $1 million into a super PAC supporting Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s bid for governor.
Later, a city judge in Poughkeepsie is being recommended for removal after he filed a defamation lawsuit against a medical office manager who filed a complaint against him with a state watchdog.
Plus, a new bill is seeking to further empower New York City tenants to challenge certain rent hikes and Hochul will soon consider a bill that she’s already vetoed three times.
