Good afternoon — it’s Thursday and National Paperclip Day.

🛠️ A passageway is being built for Hochul at the Capitol

If you’ve visited the second floor of the state Capitol lately, you might have noticed a strange structure being built beside the Great Western Staircase, better known as the Million Dollar Staircase.

It started as a small box-shaped facade of metal beams at what would be the western entrance to the state Capitol if it were still used. That was last week, when I thought it might be revived for visitors.

But this week, it began to grow. A tunnel — there’s no other word for it — of metal beams leading out of the box was erected outside the attorney general’s office.

I’ll be honest with you: I ignored it on Tuesday when I walked past the crew constructing the tunnel. The long weekend drained my interest.

But by Wednesday, I wanted to know what it was. I needed to know what it was. It’s not often that new structures are built inside the Capitol and, frankly, I knew that you would want to know what it is, too.
