💰 Gov. Kathy HOCHUL and leaders in the state Legislature hadn’t reached a deal on the state budget as of Wednesday afternoon. An agreement is not expected this evening.
But we do know one thing: the question of who has control over New York City’s school system is not expected to be answered in the budget. ✏️
Right now, the mayor of New York City controls the city’s school system, rather than a board of education.
But that power is set to expire this year unless the Legislature extends it.
Senate Majority Leader Andrea STEWART-COUSINS was asked if it would be in the budget Tuesday afternoon and gave a one-word response: “No.”
