💰 Budget talks are ‘slogging along’ but a deal isn’t expected this week
We’re in the second week of New York’s fiscal year and, so far, there is no end in sight to negotiations on the state budget.
Lawmakers didn’t know anything in the morning, which wasn’t a great sign. If there wasn’t enough happening over the weekend to loop them in, a deal is not imminent. It’s not even close at this point.
You might remember how Sen. Liz Krueger, a Democrat, said last Thursday that she was optimistic a budget deal could come together this week. She didn’t have the same optimism when asked about her outlook Monday.
“It’s a darker day for me,” Krueger said. “The world is about to go into a world recession, the country is literally on fire.”
