In today’s CapCon, New York won’t be able to raise the minimum wage in January as expected because of a state law restriction. Hochul is seeking to raise it anyway.
Then, the state Assembly has formed a working group to develop recommendations for changes in laws regarding sexual assault in response to the allegations at Cornell.
Later, state court officials have been ordered to release the guidance they issued to judges to help them interpret changes in criminal justice laws, including cash bail.
And, New York City will help the state defend against legal challenges to the new tax on high-value second homes in the five boroughs, Mamdani says.
Plus: Hochul has yet to decide a bill that would give election officials more flexibility in extending voting hours if there’s a major disruption at a polling place.
