Good afternoon — it’s Friday, and Christopher Street Day.

FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 2024

TODAY’S CAPCON:

  • While some Democrats aren’t happy about Biden’s debate performance, others in New York weren’t fazed.

  • Republicans in New York cheered Trump’s debate performance.

  • Tech companies sent a letter to the A.G. Friday about one of the new social media laws.

  • Liz Fine is leaving the Hochul administration.

🗣️ N.Y. Dems stand behind Biden after debate, Republicans declare victory

☑️ Many Democrats are worried about Biden as their nominee after Thursday’s debate but their colleagues here aren’t.

President Joe Biden is only eight points away from losing the true blue state of New York to former President Donald Trump in November, a poll from Siena College found last week.

If Trump won New York, it would be the first time a Republican candidate for president has taken the state since 1984 when President Ronald Reagan won reelection.

  • Since then, a majority of voters in New York have chosen Democrats by wide margins.

But it’s not New York that Democrats are worried about losing in this year’s race for president. It’s those ever-shifting swing states like Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan and a handful of others.

As you may have read Friday, some Democrats are talking about a push to replace Biden as their party’s nominee in November.

But that’s not the case in New York, where the party’s top elected Democrats said Friday they’re still backing Biden.

🔵 Democrats from the top of the ticket on down are sticking by him.
