⚖️ New York’s highest court is about to have a vacancy

If Gov. Kathy Hochul wins reelection, she’ll have the opportunity to shape a majority of the state’s highest court by the end of her second full term in office.

Hochul has selected three of the seven judges currently sitting on the Court of Appeals since becoming governor in 2021. By the end of her second term, she will have had the opportunity to select all but two of them.

That would start next year, when the 14-year term of a judge nominated by her predecessor, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is set to expire.
