Good morning, New York.

I know you usually hear from me in the afternoon, but we wanted to shoot out a special edition featuring an exclusive poll released this morning on the race for New York’s 21st Congressional District.

That’s where Anthony Constantino, a Republican who’s been endorsed by President Donald J. Trump, and Blake Gendebien, a dairy farmer with the state Democratic Party’s backing, are facing off.

The district has been represented by U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, a Republican, since 2015. And Stefanik has handily defeated each of her Democratic challengers.

Stefanik opted not to run again this year after a short-lived campaign for governor. She endorsed Constantino after he won this year’s primary election in June.

But a new poll out this morning — sponsored by the Times Union, WPTZ-NBC5 and WAMC — shows Gendebien ahead of Constantino in the race.

The poll also asked likely voters who they would vote for in the race for governor. While they’re picking the Democrat for Congress, those voters prefer Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Republican opponent, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the poll found.

Thanks for reading. You’ll hear from me again later today.
