💰 Lawmakers to approve state budget extender through Thursday
Tomorrow is the start of New York’s fiscal year. That means the state budget is due.
Gov. Kathy Hochul and the Legislature are not expecting to meet that deadline. There is simply no avenue to reaching a state budget deal in the next 24 hours.
That’s not a surprise. We weren’t expecting them to approve a budget by the deadline. Lawmakers went home to their districts for the weekend and will be back in Albany on Tuesday.
They’re expected to pass a straight budget extender that will run through Thursday, Budget Director Blake Washington told reporters Monday. It will include about $1.7 billion in spending. (Free 30-day trial here.)
