❤️‍🩹 N.Y. plan to prioritize equity in public health through 2030

🩺 A little-known council is plotting the statewide strategy to improve public health in New York.

New York has countless commissions, panels, counsels, task forces — whatever you want to call them — that each have a specific focus.

  • Those panels are sometimes used to delegate power, like when the Legislature formed one to study how much lawmakers should be paid.

  • Other times, they’re created but don’t do much, at least in public.

The Public Health and Health Planning Council is one of the more consequential state entities that meets on a regular basis.

  • They’re the ones that gave the state approval to ban flavored e-cigarettes, for example.

And this week, they started to lay the groundwork for the state’s blueprint to improve public health over the next five years — a large undertaking.
