Trump: 'We'll have to arrest' Zohran Mamdani if he blocks ICE
Plus: Why Hochul says rate hikes sought by utility companies should be sharply scrutinized.
Good afternoon — it’s Tuesday and Postal Worker Day
In today’s CapCon:
Trump warned Zohran Mamdani, the nominated Democrat for New York City mayor, that he could face arrest over immigration policies.
Hochul is calling on state regulators to rein in proposed rate hikes by utility companies, who want to increase bills by at least 22%.
Several bills passed in the final days of this year’s legislative session received support from a majority of voters, a Siena poll found.
Attorney General Letitia James scored a win in her case against U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik has introduced a new immigration bill that she says is targeted at Hochul.
Construction workers would be able to more easily use the state’s paid family leave benefit through a bill Hochul will consider this year.

🗣️ Trump threatens to arrest Mamdani if he opposes ICE
Since he won last week’s primary in the race for New York City mayor, Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani has shaken up politics on both sides of the aisle.
Some Democrats have been reluctant to embrace him while Republicans have painted him as the latest boogeyman of the left. It’s clear that his win — confirmed Tuesday in the ranked choice results — won’t vanish from the political narrative any time soon.
Mamdani has vowed to ramp up the city’s protections for immigrants vulnerable to deportation by investing deeper in legal resources for them and barring federal immigration agents from city buildings.
President Donald J. Trump gave a stern warning when he was asked at a news conference in Florida Tuesday what he would do if Mamdani’s actions impeded the work of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“Then we’ll have to arrest him,” Trump said. “We don’t need a communist in this country but if we have one I’m going to be watching over him very carefully on behalf of the nation.”
