Good afternoon — it’s Thursday and National Pasta Day.

In today’s CapCon:

  • New data from the U.S. Census Bureau Thursday shows which states more than 480,000 New Yorkers moved to in 2023

  • Super PACs are flooding New York with cash. Where’s it coming from and where’s it going?

  • We now have voter guides for every region of the state

  • Catch up on the week with Thursday Reads

📦 Where did the 481,544 people who moved out of New York last year settle?

It’s no secret that New York is losing population. We lost a seat in Congress after the last U.S. Census because of it.

Some have blamed the weather. Others point to the economy. But regardless of the reason, more New Yorkers are packing up than moving in. More than 630,000 residents have left New York since 2020.

We found out Thursday where they moved last year, when 481,544 people migrated to another state.

That’s according to the U.S. Census Bureau, which released data Thursday on migration between states in 2023. That’s part of the American Community Survey conducted each year.

So, where did they move, and how many folks from other states moved into New York? I’m glad you asked.
